Embracing the New Creation: The Circumcision of Christ

In Colossians 2:11, the apostle Paul gives us a profound truth about our transformation in Christ:
“In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ.” (Colossians 2:11)

This verse speaks of a monumental event that has occurred in every believer’s life—the spiritual circumcision performed by Christ Himself. It’s a divine act of grace and power that radically transforms us, making us new creations in Him.

A New Heart: The Circumcision of Our Sinful Nature

Through this circumcision, God has surgically removed the sinful nature from our hearts. The once-corrupt heart that was enslaved to sin has been cleansed. The foreskin of deliberate, willful sin has been amputated, and we are now new creations, made pure and holy, so that the Holy Spirit can dwell in us. This is no small thing. It is an act of deep and lasting significance that sets us free from the curse of sin and death.

When we say “yes” to Jesus, accepting Him as the Son of God, the Father uses the Sword of the Spirit—the Word of God—to permanently separate us from our old life. His powerful Word cuts deep into our hearts, severing the old, sinful nature forever. This is not a temporary change; it is a permanent, irreversible transformation.

Equipped for Battle: The Sword of the Spirit

In His great mercy, God doesn’t just leave us with a new nature; He equips us for victory. He gives us the very Sword He used to sever us from sin—the Word of God. We are not only new creations, but we also have the authority and power to wield His Word against the enemy. Just as Jesus overcame the enemy through the Word, we too are called to use the Word to tear down strongholds and advance His kingdom.

One of the most critical strongholds that believers face today is the lie that Christians are still sinners. After our sinful nature has been removed and we are forgiven of all sins, how can we still be sinners? The truth is, we are not sinners anymore. Anyone who still believes they are a sinner will remain subject to sin. But the believer who dares to believe the truth, no matter what their experiences or feelings may tell them, will be set free.

Agreeing with the Truth

Unbelief, past experiences, and the ways that seem right to man can push the truth of God’s Word out of our hearts. But we must insist on complete agreement with what God says about us in His Word. He calls us holy, righteous, blameless, above reproach, healed, set free, delivered, Spirit-filled, more than conquerors, and victorious in every circumstance. We are ambassadors of Christ, new creations, the light of the world, and over-comers.

When we fully agree with these truths, embracing them with our whole heart, soul, and mind, we tap into the explosive power that God has placed in us. We can lay hands on the sick and expect full recovery. We are equipped to fulfill all the purposes He has for us in this life. The circumcision done without hands positions us to walk in the fullness of God’s plans for us.

Embracing Our New Creation

Today, let’s embrace who we truly are as new creations in Christ. Let our hearts overflow with praise and thanksgiving to the Father who has done this miraculous work in us. We have been made new, not by anything we could have done, but by the grace and power of God alone.

Let this truth stir in us a fresh sense of awe and gratitude, and may our lives be filled with praise to the Father who made us new and gave us the power to advance His kingdom.

A Prayer of Gratitude and Commissioning

Father, I am amazed at the length You have gone to save me. I am forever grateful that You made a way for me to return to Your family. I am blessed beyond measure. Thank You for removing my sinful nature—there is no way I could have done it myself.

I choose to agree with Your Holy Word, and I will use the Sword of the Spirit to defeat the enemy’s lies and tear down his strongholds in my life and in the lives of others. Thank You for trusting me with power and authority. I will use it to advance Your kingdom and see many souls saved in my lifetime.

I am eternally grateful for all You’ve done, and I love You with all my heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let’s walk in the power of our new creation and advance the kingdom of God with boldness and conviction!
